It’s been way past time to do another post on our baby, Massimo. This time in poem form! Update: People love that first picture so I just wanted yall to know Jamie took it.
a job well done
pad, pad, pad,
sleekly navigating
in the half light
the world is shadow to the Tall Ones
but not to me
whiskers brush the corner
a quiver tells me exactly where I am
slinking by the box on four sticks where the softer Tall One looks at the smaller shiny box and taps-taps-taps with her long fleshy claws
I rub my cheek against one of the sticks
this is my domain
approval thrums from my question mark tail…
movement!
the aperture widens
widens and now i see
and hear
*chirp, chirp*
a jumper!
crouching low
all stealth and quiet
laser beam focus on my target
forward so slowly
inch by silky inch
so slow
it’s time
back legs coil up tight
muscles tense
whiskers twitch
SPRING!
ha ha, it squirms beneath my paw
My ears prick forward, fun!
bat, bat with silver brown pads
bat, bat
the poor thing tries to escape
POUNCE
ah, he’s a fast one
POUNCE
got you
bat, bat, bat
there he goes again
I scurry after and the game ensues
but not for too much longer
when there are only slivers of leg and wing left
the fun is over
YAAAAAWN
pad, pad, pad
to where the Tall Ones sleep
jump, nestle in the softness
Tall One sleepily reaches a fleshy claw
To sweetly scratch the top of my head
Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
after a job well done.
That’s our boy – I love it! xoxoxo
I love the poem, and that second picture is absolutely perfect for the ending.
