Hey, guess what? Aside from The Modeens and my solo music, I’ve been working on this all-girl band with my friends Laura Kepner-Adney (from Silver Thread Trio) and Courtney Robbins (from Seashell Radio) called The Cordials (ain’t that sweet?). It’s a bit indie, a bit americana, and a lil punk, but mostly fun and we had our maiden voyage at Red Room this past Monday, opening for Saint Maybe. I was still using cheat sheets and wasn’t really promoting it because we wanted a chill first gig without too much pressure. And, yeah, ok, I was a bit skeered. But so many awesome friends showed up and made it a great experience! Then on top of that, a review ended up in the Tucson Weekly. And it’s pretty nice! We don’t have anything else online for you to check out except for Facebook. But we had a blast and will be doing this again soon. And yes, this has turned into one bizzzzy summer of music!
Oh and hey, lookie here, I’ve started writing poetry again. Is it any good? meh, I have no idea. But that’s what my own lil’ blog is all about – taking chances and sharing possible dreck : ) It’s full on monsoon season here – which means that even when it doesn’t end up actually raining, there’s lots more clouds (giving us a respite from the sun) and a whole lotta wind. Wind strong enough to bend trees and terrorize fences. I’ve always been attracted to wind. Sure it messes up your hair, but it’s just so free and roaming. So I wrote a few lines about it. Feel free to rave, pan or ‘meh’ it in the comments – I can take it! xoxo
Wandering wind
Playing with my hair
Entering every empty space
Within and without
What have you seen?
Coming from so high, the eye can’t follow
Traveling through streets, cities, counties, states…
Picking up temporary friends to dance with along the way
Like that piece of paper, swirling up and up, until you break the embrace and move on
Where do you rest?
Moving, always moving
And never a destination
No place and every place to call home
We only know you by the effect you have on all around us
But a piece of you stays inside
Fanning the flames of my heart
And keeping me on the move
To lands yet unknown
