in between sets: the slide guitar magic of Joe Novelli
Since Zocalo magazine first outed them as a band in July of 2011 (before they had played their first show), the Cordials have been inching their way into the Tucson music scene’s ears and hearts. A regular Tucson supergroup, the band is comprised of members of Silver Thread Trio, Seashell Radio, the Modeens, and Saint Maybe, and manages to combine elements of rock, pop, surf, and country into a seamless blend of harmony and chaos.
On March 9, the Cordials will celebrate the release of their first full-length album ‘Not Like Yesterday’ at the industrial-chic Whistle Stop Depot in the Dunbar Spring neighborhood. Boreas and the Andrew Collberg Band round out the bill. Prepare for custom cocktails and beer, Joe Novelli’s slide guitar soundscapes between sets, reclaimed airplane sides as doors, a food truck, special guest Fen Ikner on drums, and more!
“…the Cordials draw from many styles, sounding like a merry blend of a spaghetti Western soundtrack and Best Coast … equal parts grace and grit, and exquisite blend that will leave your eyelashes a-flutter and your toes tapping.” –Tucson Weekly
